CPR & AED Course Now in Asia Pacific
To treat sudden cardiac arrest effectively, lay rescuers must be able to rapidly integrate CPR with AED use. Emergency First Response has responded to the call for more AED training for the layperson by producing a high quality, stand-alone CPR & AED course.
A recent coroners report on the sudden death of a scuba diver in Australia recommended, "Persons undertaking recreational diving or snorkeling (to include employers, self employed persons, employer organisations and recreational dive training agencies) shall ensure an AED is immediately available at each dive and snorkeling site and that adequate numbers of workers who are immediately available at the site, maintain current training in the use of AED."
The Emergency First Response CPR & AED course typically takes about 2.5 hours to complete and encompasses one and two rescuer CPR and AED training for adults with the option to include training for infants and children. Suitable for promotion to anyone who needs a short CPR & AED course without Primary and Secondary care, it can also be used as a CPR refresher or annual CPR update if required. Course materials include an Instructor Guide, a full colour Participant Manual with integrated Course Completion Card and a DVD incorporating the new 2005 Emergency Cardiac Care guidelines. Contact your Sales Representative at PADI Asia Pacific to order the required materials via fax on +61 2 9454 2833 or via email at padisales@padi.com.au.
Any current Teaching status Emergency First Response Instructor who also has the Care for Children Instructor rating may teach the new CPR & AED course. This course is suitable for use throughout the entire Asia Pacific region.

June and July Industry Show Updates
Attending June's Royal College of Nursing, Australia, Nursing Careers EXPOs in Sydney and Brisbane resulted in several leads with universities who deliver the Degree of Nursing. All nursing students are required to have a current lay person CPR and First Aid certificate prior to commencing their nursing course. Emergency First Response was invited to present the program at the Australian Catholic University in order to update those students who had not managed to complete a course prior to starting the course. This resulted in 92 signups for the First Aid at Work course.
In addition, Instructor Trainer, Donald Davies of Redcliffe Dive Center, visited the stand at the Brisbane show and secured enough enquiries to deliver local provider and instructor level courses. He also spoke with local universities and recruitment agencies, gaining an invitation to university and college open days so he could help students meeting their prerequisite CPR and first aid courses.
Education EXPO 2006, held in Sydney from 23-24 June gave Emergency First Response and visiting Emergency First Response Instructors the chance to meet many educational organisations with direct exposure to students, parents and teachers. Emergency First Response promoted the entire suite of Emergency First Response courses - including the new CPR & AED course. Education EXPO 2006 was not only a great opportunity to network and build relationships with potential customers but also increased Emergency First Response brand awareness to the education industry.
Regional Advertising

Responders in Action
Sometimes Emergency First Response training occurs just in time. Such was the case for Emergency First Response Instructor Camille Lemmens teaching a provider level course at the Imperial Boathouse Hotel in Choengmon, Koh Samui, Thailand on 27 May.
Because the course, organised by Thai Beach Hotel management to help their staff confidently deal with emergencies, would be challenging due to the language barrier, Lemmens conducted a provider level course with his wife, Khun Tassanee Lemmens, two days before the Thai Beach Hotel course so that she could help with translation.
This paid off as within a few minutes of starting the exam, a participant experienced a real life seizure. At that point, all remaining participants helped the student endure the few minutes of the seizure and one of them immediately arranged for a transfer to a nearby hospital. Everything they had discussed just a few moments earlier was put in place and fortified with a real experience. The student was examined in Samui, International Hospital in Chaweng and released soon afterwards.
